Tay Anderson has won the endorsement of NPE Action for the at-Large seat on the Denver Board of Education.

Tay is currently a restorative justice coordinator at a Denver high school, and has been a para-educator in both the Denver and Aurora public school systems. His experience in Colorado classrooms has informed his campaign message, which is that he will focus on the root causes of students’ success in schools, not just the outcomes. “That means we have to invest in mental health services and school safety rather than the criminalization of students,” Tay said.

When is comes to the privatization of public education, Tay had this to say:

“Our education system is starting to look like our healthcare system– a complicated “choice” system where private corporations control who gets what kind of service. It is the duty of the school board to make sure every single community school is providing a high quality education. Picking winners and losers is just an abdication of that responsibility. Education is a right. I’ll make sure our education system still treats it that way.”

The next Denver Board of Education election will be held on November 5th, 2019. Please make sure to vote for Tay when you head to the polls in November.
