Rebekah Jones for Florida’s 1st Congressional District

The Network for Public Education Action is proud to endorse Rebekah Jones for Florida’s 1st Congressional District. Rebekah comes from a family of public servants. She is a scientist researching public health and environmental issues for the state of Florida. She has one sister who is a teacher, another sister who is a nurse, and a brother who is a police officer.

Rebekah made transparency and accountability the cornerstone of her efforts while managing the Florida Department of Health’s public COVID-19 data and surveillance systems. She said, “When the state of Florida refused to publish data about COVID-19 in schools, I stepped up and led the effort to do so nationally as an advocate for students and teachers.”

Her platform on education is strong. Rebekah believes that capping student loan interest rates to reflect the nation’s priorities of furthering scientific and medical discovery through advanced study would allow students to embrace their gifts without sacrificing 10 percent or more of their income every month for 25 years.

She believes that the federal government needs to do more to ensure every child has access to a quality education from pre-K through graduate school. Rebekah supports Universal Pre-K and believes it will relieve working parents from a statewide average of $6,647 per year in childcare costs alone.

Rebekah has promised to support teachers and families. As the mother of a child with autism, Rebekah knows how difficult everyday activities can be for children with disabilities. She plans on continuing her advocacy for autism awareness, and fighting for parents who want to see more done for children with disabilities.

NPE Action urges Florida public education supporters to get out the vote for Rebekah Jones for Congress on November 8th.
