Dr. Fox spent 31 years as a Texas public school educator — as a science teacher and coach, an assistant principal, and a campus principal at both the elementary and middle school levels.

In 2009, Raise Your Hand Texas selected her to attend the Summer Institute at Harvard’s Principals’ Center, and in 2018 she served as a Principal Advocacy Fellow during the 86th legislative session — work that put her directly in front of lawmakers making the case for public school funding. Few candidates on any ballot have spent more years in Texas classrooms and front offices than Dr. Fox.

That experience shapes a platform built around the real conditions inside public schools. Dr. Fox has called for increased per-pupil funding to address safety, staffing, and unfunded mandates, noting that Texas ranks 43rd among the states in per-pupil spending despite having the eighth-largest economy in the world. She opposes vouchers and education savings accounts, which she has said will siphon resources away from public schools — especially in rural and Hill Country communities like the ones she’s spent her career serving.

The contrast with the incumbent could not be sharper. Rep. Carrie Isaac, a member of the Texas Freedom Caucus, has been a consistent supporter of charter schools and the broader push toward privatizing public education, and has stood with the legislative majority that delivered Gov. Greg Abbott’s top priority: a $1 billion private school voucher program signed into law in 2025. That program will begin diverting taxpayer dollars to private school tuition starting with the 2026–27 school year — dollars that won’t be available to the public schools serving the vast majority of Texas students in District 73.

Dr. Merrie Fox has done the job from the classroom to the principal’s office, and she knows firsthand what it takes — and what it costs — to serve every child who walks through a public school door. NPE Action proudly endorses Dr. Merrie Fox for Texas House District 73.

NPE Action urges Texas House District 73 public education supporters to vote for Dr. Merrie Fox on November 3, 2026. Make a plan to vote — and help get out the word in Texas House District 73.
