The Network for Public Education Action proudly endorses Lee Barrios for St. Tammany School Board, District 5 in Louisiana. Barrios is a mother and grandparent, and an experienced educator and businesswoman, Lee has traveled the State of Louisiana the last twelve years informing parents, listening to educators, speaking at legislative hearings and consulting with a wide array of stakeholders to develop real solutions to the challenges facing parents and students in their journeys through K-12 education.

Lee was born in Baton Rouge, graduated from Baton Rouge High, attended LSU and eventually moved to the Northshore. Lee is a retired teacher with a masters degree in Secondary Education. During her 17-year teaching career Lee achieved National Board Certification, was recognized as a 2004-05 Louisiana PTA Educator of Distinction and served as President of the St. Tammany Association for Gifted/Talented Education.

Lee was also a founding member of the Coalition for Louisiana Public Education, a former Governing Board of Save Our Schools National, and a founding and active member of the national research organization Parent Coalition for Student Privacy. There is no questioning Lee’s commitment to the preservation of public education.

Lee’s experience, expertise, leadership and firsthand understanding of the challenges of providing a quality education for every child best qualify her for a position on the St. Tammany School Board. Lee will lead the Board in exercising financial oversight and transparency, returning local control of the curriculum, recruiting and supporting qualified educators, engaging the legislative delegation, and making St. Tammany schools nationally competitive.

NPE Action urges Louisiana public education supporters to get out the vote for Lee Barrios in the primary election on November 8th.
