Arkansas State Senator Joyce Elliott for U.S. House District 2

The Network for Public Education Action has endorsed Arkansas State Senator Joyce Elliott to represent District 2 in the U.S. Congress. Formerly the Senate Majority Leader, Elliott has been called the liberal lioness of the Arkansas Senate.

As a high school teacher, Elliott taught Advanced Placement and College Preparatory courses for more than 30 years, and later joined the College Board to increase access to AP courses for under-represented student groups.

From 2000 to 2005, she was a member of the Arkansas House of Representatives. Elected to the Arkansas State Senate in 2009, she became Vice Chairperson of the Education Committee and the Chairperson of the Subcommittee on Educational Institutions. She is also the chair of the Arkansas Legislative Black Caucus.

A staunch public school supporter, Elliott played a critical role in funding and implementing Arkansas Better Chance for School Success, the state’s Pre-K education program. She has opposed the expansion of school vouchers and charter schools and has been a vocal proponent of local control for the Little Rock School District.

NPE Action urges Arkansas public education supporters to get out the vote for Sen. Joyce Elliott on November 3, 2020.
