Our public schools educate nearly 50 million students. They provide warm meals, a trusted adult, access to mental health support, and the chance to discover a passion that changes the course of their life. They don’t turn anyone away. That is not a small thing — that is everything.

But a growing movement to privatize American education is putting all of that at risk. And it is creating an affordability crisis for taxpayers in states where politicians are greenlighting funding for every unproven alternative that comes along.

Make it clear to your representatives that public schools are the first choice of American families and that it is their job to stop privatization. 

Voucher programs, micro schools, online schools, homeschools, and the unchecked expansion of charter schools are now siphoning billions of public dollars away from the public schools that serve the vast majority of our children. These unaffordable programs divert critical funding to private, unaccountable institutions — often with little oversight, no requirement to serve students with disabilities, and no obligation to meet the same high standards we hold public schools to. Every dollar that leaves a public school is a dollar taken from a classroom, a counselor, a music program, or a school nurse. The child leaves, but the stranded costs stay behind.
