Alabama Action Alert: Bill to Divert Public School Funds to Charters is Introduced

Published by

Drop what you are doing and act to save public schools in Alabama!  Senate Bill 387 is currently in the  Senate Finance and Taxation Education Committee and is expected to be voted on very soon. Your Representatives must hear from you today!

SB387 would allow local tax dollars and foundation program funding to flow to charter schools. The state has never fully funded the foundation program, and now they want to gamble millions of dollars on charters.

Alabama citizens need to STOP this bill NOW and demand the Alabama legislature make a strong commitment to public education.

Here is a message you can use in your email:

Dear Senator:

I am requesting that you oppose Senate Bill 387. This bill would divert local funding away from our community public schools. In addition, it would provide foundation program funding as soon as the charter school opens–something our local schools do not receive. Now is the time to support our neighborhood public schools, not divert funding from them to charter schools. Thank you for your attention.
