Tyler Murphy for Fayette County School Board, District 2

Published by

Tyler Murphy has received the endorsement of the Network for Public Education Action for the District 2 seat on the Fayette County School Board in Lexington, Kentucky.

Tyler told us that “as a public school teacher and long time activist, running for this position is simply another way for me to put into action what is a deep, personal commitment to education and improving our community.”

He told us that public education is under attack in Kentucky, with a governor pushing a very pro-charter school agenda. The governor filled the State Board with charter school proponents and tried to launch a state takeover of the largest school district in the state. Fayette County is the state’s second largest school district, and Tyler is ready to push back against a potential state takeover. He supports local control by a democratically elected school board with members who are accountable to the citizens in the community.

When it comes to charter schools, Tyler said that charter schools are one of the biggest threats to public education both nationally and locally. He said that the Fayette County Public School district is already making gains and doesn’t need to divert already limited dollars to charters.

On November 6, Tyler Murphy is our pick for the District 2 seat on the Fayette County School Board. Please support the candidacy of this dedicated teacher and activist.
