NPE Action Endorses Tay Anderson for District 4 Denver School Board Director

The Network for Public Education Action has endorsed Tay Anderson in his race for the District 4 seat for Denver Public Schools (DPS) School Board Director.

Tay, a recent DPS graduate, was student body president at Manual High School for three years, and was elected State Central Committee Person for House District 9. Tay told NPE Action that he is dedicated to Denver’s students because, “every student is bigger than the narrative told about them.”

He says that he is ready to demand more accountability and transparency from the board, and to make it more accessible in order to better serve the needs of Denver’s students, teachers and community members.

Tay is committed to keeping neighborhood schools open, and he supports a moratorium on new charter schools. He also expressed a commitment to adequate funding in order to keep class sizes low and to provide robust student programing. He believes it is important to retain and better compensate teachers and to make facility improvements.

Here’s Tay in his own words on why he does not support TFA, despite the current teacher shortage in DPS:

“We must have teachers steeped in content knowledge, pedagogy, child development, and cultural competence. We must ensure that teachers are effectively trained, mentored, and retained.”

Please join NPE Action in supporting Tay Anderson for the District 4 seat for School Board Director on November 7th.
