NPE Action endorses Johnnie Lattner for the Newark School Board

NPE Action has proudly endorsed Johnnie Lattner for a seat on the Board of Education in Newark, New Jersey.

Johnnie is a dedicated public education advocate at the local, state and national levels.  He is the co-founder and Director of Community Relations for PULSE (Parents United for Local School Education) as well a member of the coordinating committee for Journey for Justice, and a chairman of the #WeChoose campaign.

This is a pivotal moment for the Newark Board or Education. The state, which took over operation of the district in 1995, returned Newark to local control earlier this year. That return to local control gives decision-making power back to the elected board, making this a critical election.

Johnnie told us that he would like to see a moratorium on the unchecked growth of charter schools, which cost Newark’s public schools approximately $250 million dollars a year. Johnnie pledges to help create a sustainable community school district within the next three years, and to implement restorative justice practices in all district schools.

Please do what you can to support Johnnie Lattner’s candidacy for the Newark Board of Education election to be held on April 17, 2018.
