Kyle Boyer for Pennsylvania Senate District 19

The Network for Public Education Action is pleased to endorse Kyle Boyer for the Pennsylvania Senate in District 19. NPE Action endorsed Kyle in his current position as the Region 2 representative on the Tredyffrin/Easttown School Board. Kyle has taught at the middle and high school levels, and he’s the president of the West Chester, PA NAACP.

Kyle’s positions on testing, charters, and vouchers are all in line with those of NPE Action. Here’s what Kyle told us.

Testing:

“I believe an appropriate type of testing would be grade-span testing, so students were tested only once in core subjects in a span of grades. I do not support annual standardized testing in every grade.”

“Psychometrically there is no good way to evaluate teachers based on test scores as the variables are myriad and tests are only one snapshot of all a teacher does.”

Charters:

”Charter schools should be held to the same financial accountability standards as public schools. I believe given how the charter system has affected public school systems, there should be a moratorium, particularly in PA which has a notoriously poorly-written charter law.”

Vouchers:

“Regardless of the terms they go by (opportunity scholarships etc.) vouchers are bad news. They do not help the students they are intended to help, and harm public schools by taking resources away.”

Kyle is an outstanding candidate and friend of public education. We urge voters in District 19 to cast their vote for Kyle in the primary election on April 28, 2020.
