NPE Action is proud to endorse Ben Jealous for Governor of Maryland. Mr. Jealous is a former president and chief executive officer of the NAACP. In 2011, he wrote a courageous editorial in the Washington Post in opposition to charter co-location in the public schools of New York City.
Mr. Jealous has proposed that the state raise teacher pay by 29% and “end the era of educators earning less than a living wage.” He supports full-time universal Pre-K and he is an advocate of community schools.
He also wants to increase support services in schools to increase student access to social workers and psychologists and he wants to improve special education services.
For these reasons, we give our endorsement to Mr. Jealous in his bid for the Governorship of Maryland. We hope you support his candidacy this November.
