Johanna Lopez for Orange County School Board – District 2

The Network for Public Education Action is proud to announce its endorsement of Johanna López for Orange County School Board. López is a twenty year veteran of the classroom, and the 2017 Orange County Public Schools Teacher of the Year.

As a school board member, López wants to continue to empower students to achieve success.

She told NPE Action that if elected she will advocate for culturally-relevant schools that fully represent the community. “Every student, despite their background, deserves access to quality public education,” López said.

A firm believer that students deserve to be evaluated by teachers, not standardized tests, she will advocate to ensure that students are not retained based on their Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) scores.

López is against the public funding of charter schools, calling them “a step towards the privatization of public education.” She believes charters should be held accountable to the same standards as public schools, and noted that charter schools often lack accountability, transparency, and culturally-relevant teaching approaches.

Thanks to her time in the classroom, López knows the impact class sizes can have, and she will work to lower class sizes in the district to a 20:1 student-to-teacher ratio.

Johanna López will be on the primary ballot on August 28th, and if successful, on the November 6th general election ballot. Please support the candidacy of this truly pro-public education teacher for the Orange County School Board.
