NPE Action endorses Jerry Rosiek for Eugene, Oregon School Board

The Network for Public Education Action is proudly endorsing Jerry Rosiek for Eugene, Oregon School Board, Position 3.

Jerry is a Professor of Education at the University of Oregon, and a member of the Community Alliance for Public Education (CAPE), which brought Diane Ravitch to Eugene to speak.

Jerry had the following to say regarding why he is running:

“Eugene loves its public schools. We also know our schools are at risk. Years of defunding and top-down state and federal control have left us with ridiculously large class sizes, no music and art electives, an overuse of standardized tests, and higher drop-out rates. Now, the Trump administration is proposing a voucher funding system that will take more funds out of our schools and threatens to undermine public schooling entirely. This is no time for business as usual. As a Board member I will bring Eugene together to defend our public schools.. Together we can give our children the schools they deserve.”

Jerry believes in supporting public school innovation instead of charter schools, in smaller class sizes, and in full and sufficient funding of Eugene’s public schools. He is worried about the ineffectiveness of virtual schools and he is opposed to high-stakes testing.

It is critical that Eugene elect Jerry. If you live in District 3, your mail in ballot will arrive on April 23 and will be due back on May 16. Be sure to vote for Jerry Rosiek and encourage your neighbors to do so as well.
